Welcome to Cosmic Century Living!
I’m DJ (“Daysha”) Ferris: writer, world-builder, retro-modernist, and (as of right now “wannabe”) indie filmmaker. For years I’ve been pouring stories into notebooks and manuscripts, but the classic “one day these will be books” dream started feeling something was missing… Then, recently, I started wondering whether those stories would rather be shown than told (both?). I kept envisioning the narratives in shorter bits and bites, branching choices that all had interesting outcomes, soundtracks composed to their moods; suddenly, I made a decision. I’m just going to film them with the tools at my disposal and get the silly buggers out of my head already. (My apologies for the language – on a bit of a BBC kick lately and it’s come out, yeah?)
So, that’s the new flight plan.
You’ll find three main categories of content on this site (my virtual playground):
✦ Starboard Log – The captain’s journal. Dev logs, personal reflections, behind-the-scenes of whatever video bit or story I’m currently at the controls of, plus the occasional “today I crocheted a sweater that looks like the American flag while thinking about Apollo-era optimism” post. Real life stuff here.
✦ Quantum Workshop – My playground for AI-assisted magic. Art, music, short animations, weird little animations, experimental tools; anything I conjure with a prompt and a dream goes here. I’ll share the finished pieces and, more importantly, the prompts, workflows, and happy accidents along the way so you can steal the tricks for your own worlds.
✦ Cosmic Dispatch – Deep-dive transmissions about whatever rabbit hole currently has me in a chokehold: Atomic Age design history, forgotten space programs, 1960s visions of the year 2000, retro-futurist fashion, pulp sci-fi covers, cold-war science that sounds like sorcery; you get the idea. Expect research, video trailers, and the occasional 3 a.m. “wait until you hear this” energy.
In the coming weeks and months you’ll see the first baby steps of my filmmaker learning process (hint: there will be screens of green as far as the eye can can’t see), new music tracks, AI project drops, and whatever else decides to beam aboard.
Buckle up, buttercups! We’re going full retro-modern warp speed; but gently, and with excellent coffee (probably Red Bull, actually – Strawberry Apricot or Watermelon – extra specific, that).
Live long and prosper in style!

Captain & Chief World-Builder, Cosmic Century Living (and soon, Cosmic Century Studios!)
